Ecosystem condition underpins the generation of ecosystem services: an accounting perspective

There is a linkage between the condition of ecosystems and services they provide. In accounting framework set by United Nations System integrated Environmental Economic Accounting – Ecosystem Accounts (SEEA EA), two different sets accounts assess monitor ecosystem services, respectively. The former are reported as indicators in an asset account format, while latter supply use tables. Without concrete linkage, run parallel: only ex-post correlation analysis could confirm (or not) common path. On other hand, clear create sequence that justifies supports statement any change will affect and, turn, benefits provided to economy society. Concrete applications undertaken under project “Integrated system for Natural Capital Accounts” demonstrate at which stage direct connection can occur accounting. paper starts with theoretical background meant basic concepts underlying transition from services. Next, briefly presented: specific case studies concern flood control crop pollination. discussion, simple proposal drafted facilitate possible procedure those practitioners interested having ES operationally linked.
